The
CNES Balloon division
has been developing the superpressure balloon (SPB),
while LMD has developed the measurement gondola. This concept
has been validated in several test flights.

LATACUNGA 1998 campaign
Six STRATEOLE SPBs were released during the Latacunga
campaign. The basic instruments in the gondolas were two temperature
sensors, a pressure sensor, a GPS receiver and an ARGOS transmitter.
Measurements were made every 12 minutes. Three flights lasted more
than a few days :
