Research proposal.

The post-doc will develop, analyze, and implement geometric variational integrators for several evolutionary PDEs used in geophysical fluid dynamics or in more general continuum mechanics. Geometric integrators are specific numerical schemes that preserve the geometry of the physical system, such as a Lagrangian or Hamiltonian formulation, together with some of the Lie group symmetries and the associated conservation laws.

The post-doc will work on both the theoretical and implementation aspects of geometric integrators, with an emphasis on his/her preferred aspect.

Required qualifications and skills.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or mathematical physics.

  1. -A solid knowledge of numerical implementation and simulation is required.

  2. -An interest in differential geometry, Lie groups, and its applications to dynamical (Lagrangian or Hamiltonian) systems is required.

Application.

Your application should contain:

  1. 1.a curriculum vitae containing basic data including your birthdate, your citizenship, and present country of residence

  2. 2.a list of publications together with the links to the publications

  3. 3.a cover letter explaining why you think your application should be considered for this specific position

  4. 4.a short (2/3 pages) description of your past research
